Description
BRIAN BORU, HIGH KING OF IRELAND.
Brian Boru is regarded as Ireland’s greatest ever ruler and under his rule Ireland prospered and became a powerful opponent of the Limerick and Dublin Vikings who were ravaging the country, slaughtering innocents, selling Irish natives into slavery and looting the treasures of the monasteries.
He died during the great Battle of Clontarf in 1014 when his armies finally defeated the Vikings and their Irish allies.
LION OF IRELAND
In 1983 I was hired as an artist and art director for a projected movie titled ‘Lion of Ireland’ to be shot in Ireland.
It was to be based on the US number 1 best-seller by Morgan Llewellyn which told the story of the life of Ireland’s greatest High King, the legendary Dalcassian, Brian Boru.
I had the great honour to work with William (Bill) Creber, one of the Hollywood greats who designed and art directed the original ‘Planet of the Apes’ and many other fine movies. Bill was an inspirational team leader and I still cherish the volumes of research he and his assistant, Reneé Brown compiled on Viking Ireland -and gifted to me when the funding for the movie collapsed and the team left for home.
