Winged Figure 1971 Original Vintage Silkscreen Print

This poster, using one of my ‘Winged Figure’ series from my show in the Project Arts Centre, caused a lot of aggro due to the obvious sexually explicit nature of the work.
‘Yer man’s dick is sticking out. Mister’ was a mild version of the many comments the fly-poster guy got when he was posting up these in Dublin on every hoarding in the city centre.

We need not have worried as by about noon the next day they were all nicked by people for the walls of their flat or student digs. Personally, I was chuffed -it showed that people were engaged with my poster work artistically and this got my name around too a lot faster than I could have imagined.
I remember the opening of the show and the snooty show of disapproval by our then foremost art critic. Nothing new there.

I do believe that that is precisely when I decided to always be an outsider rather than join the ranks of the snob, knob Irish Art establishment. It was so much more fun to be regarded as some local rebellious poster maker
