The Book of Conquests Portfolio 1984

There are three editions I am releasing.

Original Edition: This is the original portfolio which includes 4 A3(16″x11″) size four-colour raised-print, thermographic images, 2  A3(16″x11″) preliminary drawing prints and 2 large  A2( 23″x16″) prints.

The portfolio is signed and embossed on the front cover and on the A2(23″x16″) Nuada the High King print.

Special Edition: Includes the original portfolio and 4 A3 (16″x11″) prints of Tailltu, The Dream of Nuada, Hurling Match and The Coming of the Tuatha. Images from the Book of Conquests. (images above)

Deluxe Edition of 25: This includes all of the above and Beneath the Sky of Stars Raised print hand colored in watercolors. (this is the print that comes with the hardback edition of the Book of Conquests)

Condition note: These have been stored for the past 35 years. The Portfolio cover may have some scuffs and minor bends around the edges which you can see in the pictures. The actual prints are in perfect mint condition just like the day they were printed!

Artist’s Note

As far as I am aware these four A3 size four-colour raised-print, thermographic images are absolutely unique.

Each print image is produced by creating a single specific image on every one of the three overlays. Then all are combined in the reproduction process, printed in metallic inks on embossed linen-textured paper and the black ink is covered with a light layer of shellac which is put through a heat process and raised off the paper surface.

As far as I am aware today (and I would love to be corrected) no one has ever produced a series of prints like this anywhere.

All are absolutely original art prints and to be honest I would not ever attempt to replicate this technique and method again as it was immensely time-consuming and mind-bendingly difficult to create.
They are well worth the effort when I look at them now, I’m delighted with the end result and of course the printers, Thermofoil Print of County Clare, who were the only company in Ireland or elsewhere who could produce A3 size thermography, really did such a wonderful job.

Unfortunately they are long out of business, killed off during the worst recession of recent times, but I was lucky to have dedicated printers who went the extra mile to produced this magnificent collection of fine art prints contained in this portfolio.

Deluxe Edition note: The Beneath the Sky of Stars print is the same print which comes with the Book of Conquests hardback.

The reason these have not been for sale for nearly 35 years is that I had a life changing event which meant that I had no way to deal with them but I knew one day I would be able to put them out there again.
