TAILLTU QUEEN OF THE FIR BOLG

Tailltu Queen of the Fir Bolg. Fine Art Print from my original Celtic Fantasy painting.
Tailltu was an Irish warrior queen, I have depicted her as a fiery redhead. One of my own favorite works and one of the most dramatic, I painted this in 1989 and used it on the front cover of my concept record album, Érinsaga.

Description

Tailltu was one of the most powerful warrior-rulers of early Ireland and was the most illustrious warrior-queen of the tribe known as the Fir Bolg, one of the earliest races to invade and inhabit Ireland. Tailltu was the wife of Eochai Garb Mac Erc, king of the Fir Bolg, foster-mother to the great hero Lugh the Sun God, and daughter of King MághMhor of Spain. Tailltu was buried at her cult centre on the plain she had cleared at Telltown, near Navan, Co. Meath, not far from Royal Tara, in the Irish Valley of the Kings.
