SOLITUDE
This painting depicts the old Celtic Christian faith, a mixture of ancient druidic belief and the early, more tolerant, Christian teachings brought to Ireland by Saint Patrick who simply absorbed the ancient beliefs, into his new religion and included all the ancient Celtic gods and goddess who he simply reassigned to the new faith and included them all in his new list of Irish saints. Only under the papacy of Pope John 23rd were they all, male and female, consigned to oblivion (or so they thought) and stripped of their sainthood. Not a great idea as it turned out -as anyone who has watched their demise of the catholic church in Ireland would have to agree. Maybe they had more real spiritual power then we gave them credit for 🙂
