QUEEN MAEVE THE WARRIOR QUEEN OF CONNAUGHT by Jim FitzPatrick
I’ve been wanting to do more hand colored prints and have been playing with a few ideas. I think this artwork of Queen Maeve and the gold ink really work beautifully. I’ve tried to show the shine of the gold with the light.
Printed on stunning pearlescent paper and hand colored in gold ink by artist Jim Fitzpatrick.
This is a limited Edition of just 10 Signed Numbered and Embossed A3 16”x11” Prints.
My favourite character of the historical Kings and Queens of Ireland and notorious for getting rid of one husband to take on another younger version, Medb (Maeve) Queen of Connacht, is one of the greatest warrior-queens in both Early Irish History and Mythology. Medb is also one of the principal characters in the famous Irish epic ‘Táin Bó Cuailnge’, The Cattle–Raid of Cooley’.
She reigned over the province of Connaught for many years and had many lovers as well as a husband or two or three, until she was slain by a son of the Ulster king –and her fierce opponent –Conchubar (Conor) MacNessa, himself the son of a woman warrior, while she was naked, unarmed and bathing in a lake.
