PLANXTY. ALBUM COVER. THE WELL BELOW THE VALLEY. 1974.
Planxty could rightly be called Ireland’s very first folk supergroup. Led by the great Christy Moore with genius Donal Lunny, along with those extraordinary musicians Andy Irvine and Liam O’Flynn, they set a new standard for traditional Irish music. I still love that album.
I am told this was ‘the first time ever’ that early Irish Monastic art was used on an album cover.
