Morrigan and Macha Silver 1972 Original Vintage Poster Set

Macha and Morrigan
These two posters are lithograph prints, size 20”x30”, printed on high-quality gloss art paper.

Of all of my early posters these two were among my very best artistically and the seeds of my later, more elaborate, Celtic artwork were well and truly sown here in 1972 with these two works.

The influence of Mucha was slowly permeating my work and these two are classics of their time -and sold superbly.
One reason was simple -they were nearly always bought as a set. The nudity passed without notice save for one minor condemnation in our national press but that was normal in those days.
Macha and Morrigan were both beautiful war goddesses of the legendary Tuatha Dé Danann and were, together with the war-goddess Nemain, were known collectively as ‘The Babhb’ ferocious Valkyrie-type harbingers of death, destruction, and ultimate doom.

The wonderful London Victoria and Albert Museum acquired the artwork for Morrigan and added it to their Permanent Collection way back and that in turn grabbed the attention of the Irish media so for a week the acquisition of a poster artwork by such a prestigious London Museum made the news and this was featured in many newspapers in Ireland and the UK.
These two make a cool set and I still love them. Printed one colour on beautiful smooth glossy printed silver on high-quality art paper they really stand the test of time.

Despite the obvious class and beauty of the these two prints, which can easily be discerned from the images here on the site, no computer monitor could ever hope to do them justice. Viewing them in the flesh, you are almost enchanted, entranced, without any need for words.

Everything about them, the artwork, the technique, the profound ‘simplicity’ of black on silver – the combined cognitive effect and affect, is so extremely pleasing to the heart and soul that only a great poet could hope to do them justice with words IMO.

Should certainly be bought as a set, if you can afford them? (sell your mother if you have to, whatever 🙂 Such a unique opportunity to acquire these beautiful pieces – at what I consider to be a mere fraction of their true monetary value – should not be missed.
