Love 1968 Original Vintage Silkscreen Print

There are slight colour differences in almost every print from the original process used.

My first attempt at a real psychedelic poster using vivid Day-Glo inks and hand-screened graduated tones. Unfortunately, my art skills were just a little under-developed and this was a cool learning curve for both myself and the printer who had never been asked to print a graduated tone before but they did a great job too silk-screen printing this beauty.

It is worth noting that this is also my very first attempt to use Celtic motifs, though the larger circles were meant to represent the triple spirals of Newgrange and Irish Megalithic art.

I have to admit I amazed that these posters have lost none of their vibrancy either.

I remember asking for permanent inks to be used as I had experience of one of my posters for advertising literally fading before our eyes when the printer diluted the Day-Glo inks with paraffin to save a few bob.

His nickname, as I discovered, was well deserved…’Paraffin Oil Doyle’. Lovely man too and always good for a laugh, except when it was on us all.
