Legends of Ireland Fine Art Prints Set 1

Now I present to you Legends of Ireland as you have never seen them before.

What is in each set?

There are two size options A4 8″x11″ and A3 16″x11″. Each set includes the six fine art prints of Legends of Ireland and the cover print with a brief explanation of the story.

Important note: the prints are not signed only the cover print is signed by me the artist and embossed. On the Special Editions, I sign every print.

Each size, A4 and A3, is limited to an edition of just 25 Hand-Enhanced silver prints which are signed and embossed for authenticity.

THE LEGENDS OF IRELAND.
The literature of ancient Ireland has been called ‘the earliest voice from the dawn of western European civilisation’.
We are blessed to inherit such a huge body of work via our extensive, surviving annals and written literature and these same myths and legends of Ireland are a constant source of inspiration for artists like myself.
This set of the Legends of Ireland features some of my favourite images drawn from Irish mythology, from the powerful Donn Chuailnge, the Brown Bull of Clooney coveted by Queen Medb to the lesser known tales of Iubdan, King of the Lepra and Lepraucan and the story of the hounds of Fionn Mac Cumhail.

These beautiful tales have been passed on to us over generations and it has been wonderful for me, as an artist, to have such rich subject matter.

This is the text which appears on each print.

FIONN MAC CUMHAILL.
Fionn MacCumhaill (Fionn= ‘The Fair One’) is one of the central characters in the Ossianic or Fenian Cycle of Early Irish Mythology.
Fionn was a leader of the Fianna Éireann, the royal bodyguard of the High Kings and one of the greatest heroes of all in ancient Éireann.

FIONN’S HOUNDS, BRAN AND SCEOLAN.
Bran and Sceolan were the two hounds of Fionn Mac Cumhaill, legendary warrior and leader of the Fianna, the bodyguard of the High King, Cormac mac Airt.
According to the legends, Fionn’s sister Tuireann was turned into a bitch and in this form gave birth to the two hounds that served at the side of Fionn and kept him from harm.

IUBDAN, KING OF THE LEPRA AND LEPRACAUN.
The tale of Iubdan, king of the Lepra and the Lepracaun is told in the story of ‘The Death of Fergus Mac Léide’.
Iubdan was captured by Fergus, the king of Ulster when he was tricked and fell into a huge bowl of porridge. Fergus released him only when he parted with his magical shoes, for whoever wore them could travel over or underwater as freely as on dry land.

THE SALMON OF WISDOM.
For many years Finegas the Druid had been waiting to catch the Salmon of Wisdom which lived in a pool near the Boyne River.
One day he hooked this huge fish and gave it to his pupil, the youthful Fionn, to cook over a spit.
The boy warrior burnt his thumb on the flesh of the fish and sucked it thereby obtaining all of the stored wisdom of the ages.

MAEL DÚIN’S VOYAGE.
Mael Dúin is one of the great heroes of the very earliest myths whose fabulous epic voyage, with sixty of his fiercest warriors, to avenge the death of his father is thought to have inspired the later Christian ‘Voyage of Brendan, ‘Navagatio Brendani’, which in turn inspired Christopher Columbus.

QUEEN MEDB
Medb, Queen of Connacht, is one of the principal characters in the famous epic Táin Bó Cuailnge, the Cattle-Raid of Cuailnge. 
She reigned over Connacht for many years and had many lovers and husbands until she was slain by a son of Conchobar mac Nessa, King of Ulster,
bathing in a lake.

THE DONN CUAILNGE Special Edition Print. (This text is not on the print)
The Donn Cuailnge, or The Brown Bull of Cuailnge, was the greatest bull in all the land. He was coveted by the great warrior-queen, Medb of Connacht, and when she failed to obtain him by peaceful means she decided to take the Donn by force and she invaded Ulster and brutal war ensued, ending with the death of the Ulster hero CúChulainn.
