Jailbreak 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Print

You remember this cover. Maybe you bought the album the week it came out. Maybe it was a CD years later. But you remember holding it, turning it over, staring at every detail — the Overlord, the four lads breaking free, the energy pouring out of every line.

Jim FitzPatrick drew it by hand in 1976. Pen, ink, blade, Letraset — techniques nobody uses anymore. He created it alongside Philip Lynott, who showed Jim a Marvel comic and said that’s what the cover should feel like. Fifty years later, Jim has remastered the artwork himself.
50 prints. Signed, numbered and embossed by Jim. Posted directly from his studio to you.

42cm × 42cm. 15-inch image — larger than the original album cover. Printed on Hahnemühle Metallic Rag, a thick textured fine art paper that reveals detail you’ve never seen, no matter how long you spent staring at that cover.

€250 or €41.66/month over 6 payments. Edition numbers assigned in order of purchase.

NOT OUT OF STOCK! Will be launched and in stock on March 26th 10am GMT!

Description

You Know This Cover

You’ve looked at this artwork more times than you can count. On vinyl, on CD, on a bedroom wall, on a t-shirt. You’ve traced the lines of it with your eyes — the Overlord towering over everything, the four figures breaking out, that unmistakable energy that made it feel more like a comic book splash page than an album sleeve.

That wasn’t an accident. Philip Lynott showed Jim FitzPatrick a copy of Fantastic Four #77 — a Jack Kirby masterpiece — and told him that was the energy the cover needed. Phil insisted the Overlord, not himself, should be the centrepiece. Jim drew the four band members with a Rotring Rapidograph, then took a blade and etched directly into the dried ink to carve in shadow and detail. The fingernails were cut in individually. It was hand-drawn at a level of precision that nobody attempts anymore.

Fifty years later, Jim has gone back to the original and remastered it. The 15-inch image is larger than the 12-inch album cover and printed on Hahnemühle Metallic Rag — a heavy, textured fine art paper with a metallic finish that brings out depth and detail the original sleeve could never show. You think you know every inch of this cover. You don’t. Not like this.
