Description
THE HURLING MATCH
This account of a rather gory hurling match between two ancient tribes for the sovereignty of Ireland is the earliest recorded mention of our Irish national game in the annals.
In this crucial game, the youthful, skilful hurlers and warriors of the Tuatha Dé Danann were roundly beaten and pummelled by Rua the Bloody and his powerful Fir Bolg warriors when the wrath of the indigenous Fir Bolg descended upon them like a tidal wave and they were routed and left bloody or dead on the hurling field.
