Watercolour with pen and ink on Windsor and Newton Cotman heavy watercolor gummed paper Size: 16”x12” 40.6 x30.5 cm. Limited edition of just 25 signed and embossed prints all hand-drawn and colored only when ordered.

Many years ago Philip was scheduled to appear on the Old Grey Whistle Test on BBC and he was really excited. This was to be his debut as a solo performer and he wanted something to have on the show that was not a Thin Lizzy type art piece. He was a huge Beano comic fan and of course, he loved the British version of Denis the Menace with his ever-present red and black trademark outfit.
Out of this conversation came the original ‘Philip and Gnasher’ cartoon and I deliberately echoed the comic art and added in a few touches of my own.
Of course, he loved it and on the day there it was on camera as he performed.
This new watercolor came about when I was preparing a new portrait series and as an afterthought to add a little humor to the work I drew a little cartouche of the Philip/Gnasher sketch for sale on my website.
They do take time to produce -I never use assistants, this is all my work -and I enjoy it big time.
