AILLE THE FAIR 1975

Aille the Fair was the most beautiful of all the women of Ireland in her time and a fierce woman warrior who drugged and kidnapped the great hero of the Fianna Éireann, Fionn Mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool), in revenge for the death of Meargach of the Green Spears.

When Fionn was rescued by his son, Oscar, after many adventures and great sorcery, Aille was heartbroken and took her own life.

‘I’ve been obsessed with metallic/silver papers all my life! Among my first ever posters of Che Guevara (1969) and Macha and The Morrigan (1972) were all printed on silver foil board. This Hahnemühle metallic paper we are using for these prints brings my obsession with metallic papers to the next level and is what I have always been waiting for. We have used this paper on my most recent portfolios for Ancient Ireland Land of Legend One and Two and more recently the Thin Lizzy Nightlife portfolio, with spectacular results.

I could never in my wildest dreams have dreamt that I could now be printing these myself at home in my own studio and exactly the way I want them.
These are the finest reproductions of my artworks ever!
It’s a kind of magic.’

-Jim FitzPatrick

To celebrate 50 years of these 5 artworks, I am making them available in A4 and A3 on this stunning paper. Each print is signed and embossed by me, the artist, Jim FitzPatrick. These are open editions.
