Print details

This alternate artwork of Bríd is the first collaboration to be released between Jim Fitzpatrick and renowned Image Comics (WildStorm Rising) and Marvel Comic book colourist Eric Hope.

Drawn first by Jim FitzPatrick in pen and ink it was then given to Eric Hope to colour digitally and the results are stunning, bringing this new Celtic artwork firmly into the 21st century.

Artist’s Note:

Hopefully, this will be one of many collaborations with Eric Hope whose colour work I have admired for many years now, both painted and digitally coloured.

For me his artwork in collaboration with Barry Windsor Smith on Image Comics ‘Wildstorm Rising’ was a classic -and a masterpiece -so I am honoured to be working with him and my friend Lovern Kindzierski too in the creation of these new images of the goddess and saint Brigit-Bríd.

The Story

St. Brigit’s Day is February first and this year I had the honour of creating a brand new Celtic artwork of one of Ireland’s most important saints and ancient Goddesses as part of the wonderful Herstory Ireland campaign. For this version, exclusively for HerStory Ireland, I collaborated with DC and Marvel comics genius Lovern Kindzierski. Lovern is credited with revolutionising the entire comic book and graphic novel industry by introducing the concept of digital colouring through his company Digital Chameleon. We have been collaborating beneath the radar for months now and this is the first published result of our work together. Check him out on twitter @Lovern

Herstory Ireland is trying to give women their deserved role in Irish history which has, for the most part, glossed over any important female historical figures. Their campaign used this St. Brigit’s day 2020 as an opportunity to highlight the cause using a version of this image which was projected on the famous and iconic G.P.O. Dublin the headquarters of the 1916 Easter Rising.

Another objective of the image is to use it to focus the demand by HerStory Ireland for a new national holiday, Brigit’s Day, to honour the role of Mná na hÉireann, the Women of Ireland, in the creation of this independent nation and in the history of Ireland.
