Description

Medb. Queen of Connacht and the Warrior Fergus Mac Ríoch Hand-Enhanced Print

This pencil drawing was originally made for a painting back in 1992 called ‘Twilight of the Gods’. I made a second one of Medb herself and this was later a silver and gold enhanced print for the website that completely sold out. This new print is the partner to the first Queen Maeve hand-enhanced print.

This second is one of my best drawings and depicts the warrior queen herself and her bodyguard and ally, the Uladian (Ulster) warrior Fergus Mac Ríoch.

The First Sold Out Queen Medb Hand Enhanced print and the New partner print of Queen Medb and Mac Ríoch.

The print is on pearlescent paper, A3 16″X11″ size and enhanced in Silver and gold by the artist Jim FitzPatrick.

Every print is slightly different as I tend to just add stuff and change highlights as I produce them. Sometimes I get carried away too and add far too much stuff, so grab them while they are going 🙂

QUEEN MAEVE

My favourite character of the historical Kings and Queens of Ireland and notorious for getting rid of one husband to take on another younger version, Medb (Maeve) Queen of Connacht, is one of the greatest warrior-queens in both Early Irish History and Mythology. Medb is also one of the principal characters in the famous Irish epic ‘Táin Bó Cuailnge’, The Cattle–Raid of Cooley’.

She reigned over the province of Connaught for many years and had many lovers as well as a husband or two or three, until she was slain by a son of the Ulster king –and her fierce opponent –Conchubar (Conor) MacNessa, himself the son of a woman warrior, while she was naked, unarmed and bathing in a lake.
